Rochelle Liebling Kahan Scholarship Awards Competition for Piano Prodigies
For Children Ages 6-9
Saturday, April 5, 2008
9:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.
The Museum of Fine Arts, Brown Auditorium
This memorial scholarship began in April 2004 in memory of Rochelle Liebling Kahan who passed away suddenly on June 4, 2002. Her dynamic leadership during her presidency was an inspiration to us all. A child prodigy, Rochelle was a well-known pianist, who had a most successful career and was soloist with many of our leading symphony orchestras. Brilliant in so many ways, she was a "quiz kid" on TV for several years. She was also an attorney and supporter of the arts. Her generous gifts of time and spirit were unparalleled. Her philanthropic influence on our club and the artistic community of Houston will be felt for many years to come. The generous gifts of the Liebling-Kahan families, and memorials from club members, have made these awards possible.
The competition is open to contestants who are ages 6 - 9. It will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at The Museum of Fine Arts, Brown Auditorium, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The winners will be asked to perform at the Club's Spring Luncheon at First Presbyterian Church on May 8. Those interested in competing may contact us at webmaster@tuesdaymusic.org and we will send an application. You will be asked to include your name, address, phone number, email address, birth date, and a brief resume of your musical background, training, experience, and other contests or awards you may have won. Music for each selection must be provided for the judges' reference at the time of performance. A competent board of judges will hear the contestants. The decision of the judges is final. We will award three substantial monetary awards to the winners at the spring luncheon. |
